Benzoyl Peroxide is not soluble in water but in organic solvent such as ether. It is primarily used as a polymerization initiator by generating phenyl and benzoate radicals through thermal decomposition and initiating radical polymerization of vinyl units. Also, due to highest oxidative property among other organic peroxides, heat, shock and friction can cause ignition or explosion unless water absorbed.
